Headteacher Message! -
Good Afternoon,
It's incredible that another half term has been and gone and that we're now heading towards spring!
Last Friday, the children in year 3 and year 4 enjoyed their first school disco. It was lovely to see them having a good time and enjoying the dancing. A huge thank you to the parents who organised it and the parent and staff volunteers, without their time and support the event would not have been able to take place.
This week, our school joined others nationwide to celebrate Safer Internet Day 2025, the largest global online safety campaign. This year's theme, ‘Too good to be true? Protecting yourself and others from scams online,’ focuses on teaching children and young people how to identify and avoid scams, and highlights available support. As it is such an important area of the curriculum, we visit and revisit internet safety over the year.
Scams can take many forms and target anyone, including young people. You may think that your child would be able to spot an online scammer, but the truth is that they are incredibly convincing and hard to spot. They often involve fake profiles and identities to target people. You may have heard this referred to as ‘catfishing.’ If your child has been targeted by a scam online and they have been made to do something that they didn’t want to, then they are not to blame, they are not in trouble, and support is available.
We encourage you to continue the conversation at home about spotting, responding to, and reporting online scams. In the letter being sent out today, there are some helpful resources, weblinks and conversations starters.
On Wednesday, we were visited by Maria Roberts, from the GST, for our termly quality assurance visit. The focus was on the teaching and learning in Science and History, from reception to year 6. It was a really positive visit; the children were brilliant ambassadors for Ashley and made us all proud. Once the visit report is received, I will share the key points with you.
A gentle reminder to any parents who did not attend Parents Consultation Evening this week or experienced technical difficulties please do contact the school office as soon as possible to arrange an appointment. These meetings are an invaluable opportunity to discuss your child’s progress and well-being.
I hope that you and your children find some time over the next week to spend together and relax.
See you all back in school on Tuesday 25th February as Monday 24th February is an INSET day.

Road Safety -
There have been a number of near-miss accidents with children almost being hit by oncoming cars crossing the busy Ashley Road in front of the school. These incidents have been reported to Surrey County Council. Please can we request that you accompany your child when crossing any road and ensure that the designated pedestrian crossings are used at all times. These crossings can be found at the junctions at either end of Ashley Road.
The safety of our children is of paramount importance at all times, and it is unsafe for children to cross a busy three lane road. We understand that parking is limited around the school. We advise to use alternative parking in the surrounding roads and where possible to walk your children to school. Leave plenty of time to get to school, so that you are not rushed and arrive on time by 8.55am for your child to start in the mornings.
Please can we also ask you to be mindful to our local neighbours. We have received many complaints from local residents recently about inconsiderate drivers and parking across driveways and parking in private car parks. Please park respectively.

Year 4 -
Year 4 have continued with their learning about the artist Hunterwasser. Inspired by his art of the natural world, we created a mono print tile in polystyrene. We then used printing inks to print onto paper. The results have been fantastic and Year 4 have been really pleased with how their artwork has turned out. The next step for us is to cut out parts of our tile and print them in a different colour to add some more detail in a two tone print.

Year 1 -
Year 1 had a very exciting afternoon last week building and making their castles in Design & Technology. They began the process by exploring examples of castles and the features they have. Then we practised the skills of tape joins and slot joins to help us with techniques for constructing the castles. Thank you to the parent helpers who came into support us with this.

Surrey Indoor Athletics By Isla & Bertie Y6 -
We are very excited to announce that we have made the Surrey Athletics Team. The trials were hosted in Camberley a few weeks ago and we found out last week that we had made the squad. In the competition, we will be competing against 6 other counties. The competition is on Sunday 15th February. I (Bertie) am competing in: obstacle relay, vertical jump and hi-stepper. I (Isla) am competing in: target throw and hurdles relay. Wish us luck!
Faith -
This week we had a pop-up prayer space reflecting on this term's school value of Courage. Children could colour in bible quotes and images from our linked value bible story "David and Goliath". Those who took part shared a time when they had showed courage and this included.... First day at school, riding a bike without stabilisers and going on an airplane!
