Head Teacher's Message!-
Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope you have all had a lovely bank holiday weekend.
What a fortnight it has been! From bikeability to road safety, synagogue trips to football matches and a bird hide being constructed on the field to support our outdoor learning. Thank you to the FoA for their generous donation. Well done to the Year 5 & 6 boys for showing such great teamwork and resilience in the match against Manor Croft, they are now through to the cup finals! This afternoon, the year 5 and 6 girls are playing at Walton Oak in the league semi finals. We wish you the best of luck.
As you will be aware, SATs start for our year 6 pupils next week and we want them to know how proud of them we are and how hard they have worked in school. Thank you to the year 6 staff team for organising the breakfast for Year 6 in the classrooms from 8.15am Monday—Thursday. We’ll see how many croissants we get through this year! It is important we remember that SATs don’t measure the values we hold dearly in our school – care, courage and curiosity - values which the children excel in! So, my top tip to those of you taking SATs, is to spend a great time this weekend doing what you enjoy the most. Enjoy the sunshine and being with your families and those you love!
Have a lovely weekend.
Mrs Ratcliff
The Past Fortnight -
Year 5
We are so proud of Owl class who competed against Cleves last week in a Handball competition. The relative novices soon got to grips with the game and everyone gave 100% and beat Cleves 19-9. They cheered every team on and worked well together.
Year 4
Over the last few weeks, Year 4 have been learning about sculpture in Art, learning about how to attached pieces of clay together as well as learning how to indent it to create a pattern. This week, we have applied the skills we have learnt and are in the process of making our own clay cartouches, complete with heirogliphics to decipher! The results have been fantastic so far! Once the clay is dry, we will then paint them carefully, thinking about colour combinations that work well together and really enhance the look of our cartouches!

Year 3
Year 3 had a wonderful morning on Friday 3rd May when they went to Weybridge Synagogue to learn about how Jewish people worship and some of the festivals they celebrate. We felt very privileged to see the sacred Ark (an ornate cabinet that enshrines the sacred Torah scrolls used for public worship) being opened and having a look at a real Torah scroll.
- Mrs Nawaz
As part of Year 3's learning this half term about how we are impacted by extreme phenomena, Austin S has made his very own volcano! The oozing lava was made by combining water, food colouring, sodium bicarbonate and vinegar.
Year 2
As part of our Learning Enquiry, Year 2 were visited by a female pilot, Claire Money who flies for British Airways. Since the children have Brooklands already, they had a lot of questions and have blown our visitor away with their curiosity. Many thanks to Claire for taking the time to come and do a wonderful presentation at our school.
- Mrs Van Der Schaff
Year 1
Thank you so much to Nick, a year one parent, for coming in to speak about being Jewish and celebrating Shabbat. We loved hearing you speak about why Friday night is important to Jews and the different things they do to celebrate. The children have already learnt about why the Torah is special and now are focusing on Shabbat.
- Mrs Rayner
Reception
This fortnight reception are learning about ‘Which stories do we love and why?’ As part of our learning we read the story ‘The Gingerbread man’. We all had a go at making our own gingerbread men. They tasted delicious. We also made boats to see if they could carry our gingerbread men across the water table.

May Day Fayre -
On Bank Holiday monday, the school had a stall at the community event on Bridge Street. Despite the inclement weather, it was wonderful to informally meet so many existing families as well as families joining us in September too.
Friends Of Ashley -
We are delighted to announce the brand new Bird Hide has been installed today. We cannot wait for the children to be able to use this and watch the different types of birds around the Ashley grounds. Thank you FOA for funding this exciting piece of apparatus.
Gardening News -
the gardening diaries april 2024.pdf
The front of our school is looking amazing, a big thank you to our fantastic volunteer, Angela. She has worked her magic to help transform what we see when we arrive in the morning.
Both weeding and adding some additions to our planting beds such as the forget-me-nots, we can't thank you enough! Please say Hello if you see her busy working.
