Online Safety

Online safety (e-safety) is about using technology safely, especially technology that can access the internet or be used to communicate with others. While the internet offers exciting and intriguing opportunities for learning, creativity, connecting with others and entertainment, it also has potential risks that young people must understand. 

At Ashley, we aim to teach the children:

• How to use technology safely and confidently
• To tell a trusted adult when they are upset by something they have seen online or need help with decisions
• Minimise risks through their responsible choices and appropriate behaviour
• To question the reliability of information given through a web-based source
• About the impact of cyber-bullying and what to do if they have been affected

As part of our computing curriculum, children are taught e-safety as starters as well as our PSHE curriculum. Pupils are reminded of the SMART rules for staying e-safe from www.childnet.com

The National College have excellent parent guides based around specific topics and apps. They share helpful tips to support families through any online safety issues. Each Wednesday a new guide is shared. We also share these during our newsletter.
