Headteacher's Message! -
Dear Parents and Carers,
It’s been lovely seeing everyone settle back into school life this week. A very warm welcome to all our new families - whether you’ve joined us in Reception or further up the school - we’re delighted to have you as part of our community. I’m really looking forward to working with you over the coming months and years.
Thank you to all the parents who attended our recent “Meet the Teacher” sessions. It was fantastic to see such strong attendance and engagement. These meetings are a valuable opportunity to build strong partnerships between home and school, and we truly appreciate your support. For anyone unable to make it, the slides will be sent out shortly.
During our September INSET days, staff completed their annual safeguarding training. As part of this, we discussed social media and online safety. We would like to invite you to join our three online workshops for parents which we hope you will find useful (more details later in the newsletter). The first one is on Monday 22nd September 6pm to 7pm and is led by the Breck Foundation.
As the weather begins to change, please ensure your child comes to school with a coat and a change of shoes for outdoor play on the field. We want to keep everyone warm, dry, and ready to enjoy all aspects of school life.
Over the summer holidays, we’ve made some exciting improvements to our school environment. The Key Stage 1 toilets have been refreshed, creating a brighter and more welcoming space for our younger pupils. We’ve also installed a new basketball hoop on the playground, which has already been a big hit with the children!
We are now inviting children to apply for a range of pupil leadership roles across the school, including School Council, World Caretakers, House Captains (year 6), Faith Ambassadors, Well being Ambassadors. These roles offer a fantastic opportunity for children to develop confidence, responsibility, and teamwork skills. Children who are interested should collect an application form from their class teacher and return it before 16th September. We look forward to seeing the enthusiasm and ideas our pupils bring to these important roles.
We’re looking forward to a term filled with learning, laughter, and flourishing. Thank you for your continued support.
Mrs Ratcliff
Road Safety -
Road Safety -
The safety of our pupils during school drop-off and pick-up times is a priority for us at Ashley Church of England Primary School.
Please take note of a few important parking and safety measures:
Avoid Parking Directly Across the Road: We kindly request that parents refrain from parking across the road from the school and crossing the busy road with their children. It's important for the safety of all our pupils that we minimize road crossings during busy times.
Do Not Allow Children to Cross Alone: Please ensure that children do not cross the road alone. We urge all parents to accompany their children if crossing is necessary. Refrain from Parking in Residential Properties: We appreciate your consideration for our neighbors and ask that you do not park in residential driveways or properties around the school. Park and Stride Options: This initiative will allow parents to park at a nearby parking locations Walton Cricket Club and walk / scooter the remaining distance to the school.
We encourage you to discuss these safety measures with your children to ensure they understand the importance of road safety during school drop-off and pick-up times. Emphasizing the importance of looking both ways before crossing and staying alert.
We appreciate your cooperation and support in helping us maintain a safe environment for all our pupils.
- Mrs Rudman

SICKNESS ABESENCE - Not every illness will require a child to stay away from school. During term time, your child should attend school regularly unless he or she is ill or the school has authorised their absence. If your child is too ill to come to school, you must let the school know before 8.30am on each day of absence. If you are unsure if you should keep your child home from school due to illness, please look at this useful website "Is my child too ill for school? Click here. If you child will be absent due to illness please report via the study bugs app ONLY
Study Bugs App -Get the app or register now (https://studybugs.com/about/parents)
Please ensure that you state the nature of your child's illness (e.g. headache, vomiting, etc.) If you state that that they are under the weather or unwell, we will call you to clarify.
If your child will be absent for a prolonged period of time, the check-in and absence reporting frequency will be agreed by a member of Ashley's Senior Leadership Team and communicated via the School Administration Team.
All absence is recorded and monitored by the attendance team and a strict procedure is followed.
PERSONAL APPEARENCE - Hair should be neat and tidy and tied away from the face. Shoulder-length hair must, for safety and hygiene reasons, be tied back daily. Hair accessories should be plain in style and in school colours. Dyed, gelled, highlighted hair or braiding with coloured cotton and beads is not allowed. Patterns should not be shaved into hair.
Nail varnish, make up and temporary tattoos etc. should not be worn in school.
No jewellery should be worn to school. We prefer no earrings at all, but if necessary small flat, plain, metal stud earrings should be worn. There should only be one earring in each ear. On PE days, children should leave their earrings at home and not wear them to school.
If a child has just had their ears pierced, they should wear their earrings to school but must remove them by themselves for PE and should replace them immediately afterwards. Staff members at Ashley will not attempt to remove earrings.
Watches may be worn (not smart watches) although Ashley accepts no liability for any items that are lost or damaged.

The Past Fortnight -
Y6-
Year 6 have really settled in well this week, getting used to routines and being back in school. We have been exploring 'Happy Numbers' in Maths, finding out about each other through numbers and using reflective symmetry to create colourful creatures - whose name is hidden in these pictures?
-Miss Bardel
Y5 -
Year 5 have had a brilliant week getting to know one another and settling into their new classes. We have played lots of games, set our routines and have begun the year 5 curriculum in our core lessons. A highlight of our week has been the STEM challenge where the children had 18 minutes to construct the tallest tower, they could using just 20 sticks of spaghetti and 1 metre of tape. They had to collaborate with their table groups to problem solve and communicate to achieve their results. At the end of the time, the tower had to be able to support the weight of a marshmallow.
-Miss May
Y4 -
It has been really lovely to get to know the Year 4 children over the last week. We have spent lots of time getting to know them and building relationships that will support the learning through the year. At the start of every year, we spend some time drawing our class bird. The children worked really hard on this and it's clear that we have some budding artists in the year group! We focused on sketching with detail and explored using pencils as well as using water colours as well. We are looking forward to getting to know your children even more over the term and starting the exciting learning in Year 4.
-Mrs Ready
Y3 -
In Year 3 the children have been getting creative when making their class bird for display in the hall. The children learnt some facts about their class bird and had fun colouring in the feathers. We are so proud of our Year 3 children as they continue to show resilience and courage when learning new things.

Y2 -
What a wonderful start the academic year we have had across Year 2. We have all been really impressed with the children's willingness to engage with their learning and take on their new independent role as Year 2 children. Each day to settle us back into routine all 3 classes have been enjoying some time together in our tree house and climbing frame. We have enjoyed starting PVPG ( place value in punctuation and grammar) and finding common and proper nouns in writing lessons.
-Miss Williams
Reception -
Welcome to the Autumn term! It’s has been lovely to meet you all through our home visits, thank you for welcoming us into your homes, it is an important part of the process in building relationships with our community. It has been great to see so many children smiling and chatting about their adventures over the summer, we look forward to hearing more as we get to know them over the next few weeks!
- Mrs Lulham
Harvest Festival -
This year we are delighted that we can take the children to church as part of our Harvest celebrations. On Tuesday 30th September, Year 2-6 will be visiting the church for a service to find out all about the meaning of Harvest. Reception and Year 1 will have their service at school.
The theme for our Harvest Festival this year is linked to our learning themes. Each class will be performing a poem or song linked to their learning theme for this half term.
As we cannot invite our community into school to share our harvest festival this year, we would like to involve you another way. Did you know that blackberries, apples and pears are all in season this month? Buying seasonal food from the UK rather than imported food reduces its carbon footprint, it's fresher because it's taken less time to get to you and it costs less because it's grown locally and hopefully in natural conditions rather than expensive managed conditions. We would like to challenge you to think about the ways we can CARE for our environment and health and think about how you could change the way you shop for the better. It would be lovely to hear about the adaptations families make, please do share these on Seesaw.
As part of our Harvest celebrations, we would like to support Walton & Hersham Foodbank, The Bridge and Rentstart.

Running for RentStart -
On the 28th September, Mrs Morgan and Mrs Luxford are running the Vitality London 10k to raise money for one of our school charities, RentStart. It is a Walton based charity that tackles homelessness in the area of Elmbridge. Any donations will be welcome to get us across that finish line.
