Headteacher Message! -
Good afternoon,
Last week, Year 6 enjoyed a fabulous week away at Avon Tyrell. The photographs evidence how much fun was had despite the blustery weather. The Avon Tyrell team were amazing as well as the Ashley staff. It is such a big ask for staff to re-organise their whole family routine and not sleep for a few nights to bring children away on residential visits. Thank you everyone!
It was lovely to see so many of you at the VIP event last week - the children enjoyed sharing their learning with you and looking around their classroom. There was a great buzz around the school! Parental engagement is really important to your child's success and them reaching their potential which is why we are always looking at ways we can improve/tweak these opportunities. If you have any feedback about what worked well with the VIP event and what could better, please complete the online form, which will be sent later in the week.
It’s time for the RSPB Big Bird Watch. This week, we are going to be recording the birds that we see on our school grounds and submitting these results to the RSPB. You can also join from home. If you took part in The Big Garden Birdwatch, make sure you complete the survey by 23rd February. Every survey counts. Tell us what you saw by 23 February.
It is also Children’s Mental Health Week this week. The theme this year is ‘Know yourself, Grow yourself’ which will support the children build and grow resilience, so they are empowered and feel confident coping with ‘what life throws at them’. To find out more click on this link About Place2Be's Children's Mental Health Week.
Finally, just a reminder that our Parent Consultation Booking system is open for you to make an online appointment to meet with your child’s teacher after school on Tuesday 11th February and Thursday 13th February. This is a great opportunity to discuss your child’s learning, progress, and behaviour so far this year. Working together is key to helping every child reach their potential, and the conversations at the Parent Consultation Evening is an important step in that process. The booking system will close on Friday 7th February at midday.
Mrs RatcliffPersonal Appearance -
Hair should be neat and tidy and tied away from the face. Shoulder-length hair must, for safety and hygiene reasons, be tied back daily. Hair accessories should be plain in style and in school colours. Dyed, gelled, highlighted hair or braiding with coloured cotton and beads is not allowed. Patterns should not be shaved into hair.
Nail varnish, make up and temporary tattoos etc. should not be worn in school.
No jewellery should be worn to school. We prefer no earrings at all, but if necessary small flat, plain, metal stud earrings should be worn. There should only be one earring in each ear. On PE days, children should leave their earrings at home and not wear them to school.
If a child has just had their ears pierced, they should wear their earrings to school but must remove them by themselves for PE and should replace them immediately afterwards. Staff members at Ashley will not attempt to remove earrings.
Watches may be worn (not smart watches) although Ashley accepts no liability for any items that are lost or damaged.

Year 6 Residential-
What a wonderful week Year 6 had at Avon Tyrrell! The children braved the cold to challenge themselves and try new activities, go that bit higher on the climbing wall or work as a team to make their bottle rockets break a record. During room inspections, the children treated the staff to plays, songs and poems
Welcome to our lovely room, Where we like to shake, Boom!
It's a really neat place. Where we have a lovely case.
Please take a seat and put up your feet. While we jam to a beat!
how creative they are! Of course, the disco and campfires were highlights and we hope that your children have told you all about their trip. Be proud of them!

Year 5-
Last week and this week, Year 5 has had the fantastic opportunity of participating in a whole day, interactive workshop about the Anglo Saxons and Vikings. Through music and movement, the students were able to imagine what peoples' social activities might have been like circa 886 CE, by putting together a choreographed, whole group Anglo Saxon Dance. Next, they worked in small groups to rehearse scenes of a play about the 'Viking Invasion of Jorvik' (York) and, after lunch, they were able to perform the entire play fully costumed and with props, including medieval crowns, robes and daggers. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed learning historical facts about the 'Dark Ages' in this creative and inspiring workshop.

Year 4 -
Year 4 have been learning about the water cycle over the last 2 weeks and learning geographical lang usage such as evaporation, condensation and precipitation as well as understanding what is involved in each of these stages of the water cycle. We experimented to see if we could make our own cloud by putting warm water in a jar and then putting an ice cube over the top to cool the water vapour. We found out that condensation began to form on the sides of the jar and when we lifted the lid off, a small amount escaped which was technically a cloud! It's been really interesting to find out more about this natural phenomenon!

Year 3 -
This week Year 3 has been busy planning and beginning to design our Levers and Linkages for our Rainforest animal toy. The children are all excited to see the final product come to life.

Year 2 -
During our science lessons this week the children have been planting seeds and placing them in different conditions to see if they grow. They have been predicting what might happen!

This week reception enjoyed finishing off our learning enquiry of Zoom to the moon with biscuit decorating. The children got the opportunity to ice and biscuit and make it look like their favourite planet.

NEEDED: Binocular Donations -
This week we will be taking part in the RSPB Bird Count. We are looking for donations of binoculars so that we can make full use of the Bird Hide now and all year round. Bird watching helps you connect with nature — and where better to start than with a pair of binoculars? - RSPB
